So Much Growth in a Fortnight!

Is it really over 2 weeks since I posted last? Time flies when you are having fun and busy in the garden and outside the veggie garden there is family too ;)
Since last time there has been some great growth and warm weather and loads of watering to keep plants moist and happy.
I am also happy that my sweetcorn is doing so well now that I have to check them regularly for ripeness. Their tassles are browning nicely and this is what they look like now :)

My favourite veggie/fruit are tomatoes and there are many little toms coming along nicely, but the hanging basket Trailing Pearl are ripening daily, some are tiny, but some are a good size too...

And all my "extra" tomatoes.....side shoots and spares...have found places around the tunnel and garden to put down their roots!

1 Mini Cucumbers and 10 Sweet Red Peppers are doing good and fruiting well...

One little robin, who we thing is elderly and needs company has been following us around the garden every day. He comes to the kitchen window when no food (porridge oats) are strewn around the garden for him or when we sit outside he comes and sits with us...

Our 2 girls had a day out at the weekend too....and now I know where the saying "headless chickens" came from....:)

Perfect end to a perfect weekend ...strawberries with crunchy ice cream....yummy ;)

This evening I cleared some old peas from the hothouse and dug in some smelly but gorgeous seaweed in readiness for autumn/winter brassicas.
I hope you enjoyed my tour around my veggie garden and Come Back Soon:
Regards,
Catherine C.

Busy as a Bee !

Hy Folks,
It's been a busy 2 weeks with family visiting and weeding and watering. The weather here in Ireland was unexpectedly drier and warmer than usual, with the few downpours in between.
Everything is growing at a good rate,as even since my last post we have eaten 2 heads of Broccoli..

and they are absolutely yummy. I have just sown another module of them today.

Peas and Dwarf French Beans have been producing for a while now too. I had 2 Cucumber plants, 1 died off but the other one is going to be plenty for us by the look of it. I never expected to have the amount already on it..and this one is almost tipping the soil, but many more are coming up the vine.Might nip this one off soon to give the others higher up a chance and will give it a feed of my home brewed nettle and comfrey liquid feed.

Tomatoes.....what can I say....they are my first love among all my veggies. Once an addict, always an addict.. there is NO cure....I sow and plant the amount I can cope with.....BUT....there is always the "few" side shoots that escape me nipping off until they have grown so big that I haven't got the heart to throw them away. So surpless to requirements are still potted up and I will find somewhere to put them even if it is in pots among other plants :)

Once upon a time long ago I do remember sowing and planting Sweetcorn, but obviously they must have come to nothing as I have no recollection of that first taste, and I do love corn on the cob. So earlier this year I said I would try again for old time's sake. Well...I am pleasantly surprised to show you what they have achieved this time round so...and I am well pleased...

I have left out a lot because I usually forget to bring my camera down the veggie garden with me. Whenever I do get an iPhone it would be much easier, but pigs might fly before that happens.
Thank You for stopping by to have a look and I would love some constructive comments or otherwise ;)
Robbie says Hello too

Growth is Great in the Garden!

In the last week I can almost see the growth on the plants and we have been harvesting peas and dwarf french beans. I even pulled a carrot to see what was below ground.

The green broccoli/calabrese are forming little heads,so now time to give them a little liquid feed of my homemade comfrey/nettle mix....

And just in case I don't have enough tomato plants I sowed some old seeds to see if they would germinate....guess what....half of them did. They are black russian, beefsteak, and a shop bought pear shaped tomato.I will find spaces for them all somewhere ;)

More peas are popping for a later crop outside...and more dwarf french beans are coming along nicely...

I am quite pleased with my sweetcorn,as I have only ever grown it once before,a long time ago...

The one strawberry plant in the tunnel is the granny of all strawberries....and the outdoor strawberry bed has lots of green fruit waiting for some sun to ripen them..

This is my 2 blueberry bushes third year and each year there are more berries.I know these require acidic soil, but mine are just in my ordinary soil...

As we had a bit of a lazy weekend and tea for 2 in our "Sheebeen" down the end of our garden, my plan for the coming week is to catch up on a bit of weeding, the weeds are growing just as fast as the veggies...

Thanks for stopping by and the kettle is always on the boil ;)

Cheers,
Catherine C.

First Post, May 2014

As this is my first post here I would just like to show you around our garden and let you see what's growing.
This is my hobby tunnel which has 2 beds this year, 1 for brassicas and 1 for tomatoes, in the back half. The front half has a potting table and a seating area, and I store some plants over the winter in here also. We call this tunnel our "Sheebeen" :)

We have a few seperate areas in our garden which makes it more interesting, and as the season goes along you will see them all.
Tomatoes are my favorite veggies, well they are really fruit, but you will probably see a lot of photos of them..and here's the latest...
They are a bit taller now and have started flowering, but I have some babies in a trailing garden pearl variety which I have in a hanging basket...

I am already harvesting peas daily and 1 big strawberry plant has berries ripening too...

OK...enough for now and I hope you enjoyed a little peek around.
Cheers and Happy Gardening,
Catherine C.
